Jason Bourne is on the run again. In Iceland, Nicky Parsons, a former CIA member, ahcks into the CIA in order to access their Black Operations files, which include the Treadstone program, which was the cause of Bourne's father's death. She tracks Bourne to Greece, where she lets him know about the files. Heather Lee, an agent at the CIA, discovers the hack and brings it to the attention of robert Dewey, the CIA Director, who orders for both Parsons and Bourne to be found so that they don't upload the files to the internet. Nicky gets murrdered by the CIA assassin Asset, but gives Bourne the key to the location in which the files are hidden. When Bourne deciphers the files in Berlin, he discoveres that his father founded the Treadstone program, however, he is traced by the CIA and the files are deleted, causing him to go on the run again.
Jason then contants a retired member of the Treadstone program, Malcolm Smith, in order to discover more information. Lee asks Dewey to allow her to go to London to talk to Bourne and settle with him, so Dewey agrees. However, he sends Asset to eliminate both Lee's team and Bourne. Soon, Smith reveals that the CIA killed Bourne's father to motivate Bourne to join the CIA, however, Asset kills Smith. Lee meets up with Bourne and wants him to help to remove Dewey. Along the way of the movie, Dewey has been collaborating with Aaron Kalloor, founder of Deep Dream, which is a social media program. Dewey intends to secretly use it as a method of surveillance, but Kalloor does not agree fully with this. At the end of the movie, Asset attempts to kill Kalloor because he was about to expose the CIA's plan, but is stopped by Bourne. Bourne then follows Asset and kills him. After everything is settled, Bourne leaves.
The majority of the movie seems to be just a bunch of high-tech action sequences followed by people looking at computers. There really isn't much plot development in the movie, as it's mainly Bourne fighting through enemies to find an answer for a single question. However, the action sequences are very well done, as is expected with Paul Greengrass, the director. But overall, the plot of the movie seems like it doesn't really matter to the whole plot of the seriem, making me think that this movie is just more of an attempted revival of the franchise.
